Alabama Helpdesk Technician Education

If you are the type of person who loves working with computers and who is skilled at troubleshooting and solving technical issues, then working as a helpdesk technician might just be the right job for you. These professionals are called upon to answer telephone calls or emails that come from those seeking help with their computer issues. Technicians listen to the problem at hand, take steps to diagnose the problem, and then try to solve it remotely. If a solution cannot be found, they suggest further actions for the client to take in order to resolve his or her technical issue.

Most helpdesk technicians currently working in the state of Alabama have some type of formal education or training. No one really majors in becoming a helpdesk technician specifically. Instead, prospective technicians usually choose to major in related areas, such as computer science, computer networking, or a vast variety of other fields related to computers and computing. The kind of business in which you hope to work and the specific area of computer knowledge that you are interested in are the best indicators of what your college major should be or of what your training program should focus on.

Fortunately, for prospective technicians living in the state, Alabama has many different educational choices to consider.  One popular choice is CED Solutions, which is located in Birmingham. This training center, which is based in an area brimming with internship and job opportunities, features a Cisco Certified Design Associate program, a Cisco Certified Design Professional program, and a Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician program. So, if you are looking to work with Cisco, this is certainly your school. On the other hand, you might find your home at the Charter Performance Management Group LLC, based in Madison. This school offers certification programs for both Project Management Institute and Project Management Professional.

Other choices offering varied programs and degrees include the Computer Training Center of Huntsville; Dynetics Incorporated, also of Huntsville; Global Knowledge of Birmingham; the Highland Conference Center, also in Birmingham; Manufacturing Technical Solutions Incorporated in Huntsville; and many other fine choices. Most of the schools discussed thus far, however, are not actual colleges or universities, but are instead considered to be trade, technical, or training schools. If you are someone who would prefer to earn an actual degree, which many professionals feel is more beneficial in the long run, then you will want to take a more traditional approach to your education.

Fortunately, no matter how you decide to do it, Alabama has no shortage of opportunities. Alabama A&M University, for example, has an excellent Department of Computer Science offering several different relevant programs. There is also Athens State University’s Department of Computer Science, and Auburn University’s Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Other popular choices in the state include Birmingham Southern College; Faulkner University in Montgomery; Huntingdon College, also in Montgomery; Jacksonville State University; and Miles College in Birmingham. Any of these schools, as well as many other choices in the state, would serve you well as you seek begin your career.
