Can I Find a Technical Writer Degree Online from Georgia?

If you are interested in pursuing an education in technical writing in the state of Georgia, you have a lot of different options in terms of schools and programs. Unfortunately, most of these options fall into the “traditional program” category. These programs, usually housed by large colleges and universities, generally offer most of their classes during the day, require students to take a set number of hours for full time enrollment status, and are generally not compatible with the busy schedules of working adults or those who have family responsibilities to balance. The good news is that there are other options outside of the traditional ones.

One such option is community colleges. These smaller scale, two-year colleges are usually designed with working adults in mind. This means that the course load tends to be a bit less intense, and the majority of classes are in the evening or held online. Online classes, though they may have a virtual online “meeting time” usually allow students to view and complete their assignments on their own schedules. Many master’s level programs are also designed in this way, with some classes online and others in the evening, making them a good fit for those already in the professional world.

Of course, since so many students love online classes so much, they often wonder about whether or not they can complete entire degree programs online and receive their degree that way, right from the comfort, security, and above all, convenience of their own homes. The answer is a surprising yes, but you have to know how to go about this in the right way in order to avoid getting burned and wasting countless amounts of time, money, effort, and energy in the whole process.

First of all, know that there are a ton of good, legitimate online schools out there offering different level online degree programs in technical writing or some aspect of it. The good online schools, though, are unfortunately quite few and far between, and you are going to have to do some work if you’re going to weed out the good from the bad. The first thing you’ll want to make sure to check is an online school’s, or any school’s for that matter’s, accreditation status. If a school is not fully accredited (and don’t just take its word for it- check it out for yourself), you don’t want to attend it. An unaccredited school cannot grant you a real degree, and thus anything you receive from it is a mere certificate or ,at worse, a very worthless and very expensive piece of paper.

Know too that even though you are getting your education online, you should still be getting an actual education. While you can easily find a program that does not really require much work of students and just lets you slide by, you won’t really learn anything, and most likely won’t have any luck in job interviews.
