Some people, for example, get started just by pursuing a basic associateís degree. Many entry level positions, from which you can work your way up with time and effort, will hire those with only an associateís degree to their name. Plus, earning an associateís degree is a great first step, because you can later take the credits earned and transfer them to an undergraduate program if you so choose. Most people will earn associatesí degrees in as little as two years, and because they most commonly come from community colleges and technical schools, they are generally much cheaper to pursue than higher level degrees.

Some schools granting associateís level degrees in web design and/or related areas in the state include Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield, Bristol Community College in Fall River, Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable, and many others. Bunker Hill is a particularly good choice because of its prime location. Itís close to many major companies specializing in web and graphic design, and as such, students and recent graduates of the college have an easier time finding internships and other experiential learning opportunities.

While associateís degrees can be a great entry into the field, most professionals currently working as web designers will, in fact, have bachelorís degrees or higher. Thatís because a good bachelorís degree program can fully train you in the most important and up to date information in the field in a more in depth way than just a simple associateís degree program. Bachelorís degrees take, on average, about four years to earn and are offered in a wide variety of related subjects and specialties. They can be earned from any accredited college or university, including online schools, which makes it possible for everyone, no matter what their current situation, to get an education.

Outside of the online schooling world, common choices for bachelorís degrees in the field include Worcester State College, Westfield State College, and the University of Massachusetts at North Dartmouth, which has an excellent visual arts department. The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth is similar and has many relevant programs, as does Hampshire College and Framingham State College. There are many other fine choices as well, and your options only grow when you consider online programs and/or decide to take the next step and pursue a masterís level degree.
